Sculptures

These drawings, paintings and sculptures exist in parallel with each other. My drawings are not necessarily working drawings for paintings or sculptures and neither are my paintings and sculptures necessarily drawings taken to completion or conclusion. I draw before, during and after working on a painting or sculpture. Sometimes, the piece of work is the drawing itself. The drawing, painting or sculpture all search for a space where new things may happen, new concepts may emerge and unforeseen things may take place.

I draw with graphite, ink, watercolour, acrylic and clay on paper and clay, I cut and fold paper and clay and draw and paint onto and into them. I may move to working in another material, employing another process or using another strategy, to discover the specific elements of a work, searching for a possibly fresh perspective or ways forward or back. Each material or combination of materials, processes, strategies or improvisations infer the others in my attempt to identify and communicate the unity and tensions within the order of an individual artwork.
